IN THIS LESSON

To start crocheting can be a bit daunting, but I hope that these courses will help you learn and have a fun experience as well!

The basics:

The very beginning: slip knots. To begin crocheting, we can start with either a series of chains or a magic loop (more complicated and in another lesson). To start making a chain, we first need to create a slip knot. A slip knot is made by taking the working yarn and making a loop from left to right with the short end under the working end. We then take the working yarn under the loop and pull up a new loop, tightening the previous loop around the base. If you did it right, you should be able to pull the long working end and either tighten your loop or untie the knot!

A chain stitch is done similarly. We have the loop on our hook, we then can wrap the yarn around the hook in a clockwise direction (yarn over) and pull that through the loop on our hook. That’s the first chain! just repeat that until you have the number of chains you need.

A single crochet adds only one step. You insert the hook into the stich, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over, and then pull through both loops on your hook!

These are very basic written instructions, but I go more in depth and show you how to complete each stitch in the video!
