Knitting a fall shawl and trying to decide a shawl pattern for other yarns

Fall is almost upon us, and I love getting into the season and all the coziness that comes with it. I love the weather, the atmosphere, and the beautiful trees. Let’s not forget about Halloween and all the Pumpkin flavored things we can imagine! There is a sense of warmth and nostalgia when I think about Fall. I think of picking out pumpkins at the pumpkin patch, sitting under a warm blanket and drinking hot apple cider or hot chocolate. I think of football season, orange, yellow, and red leaves. I think of squirrels foraging for that last acorn or scrap of food to store away for winter. I think of all the birds returning to the feeders in droves, looking out the window at them, enveloped in a fuzzy sweater and drinking a warm cup of coffee. There are so many things that remind me of fall.

As an aside, I find it amazing how I prefer knitting in the fall and winter to crochet. It’s refreshing to pick up a pair of needles after having spent weeks with a crochet hook in my hand. The stitches seem to work themselves as I pass the needles back and forth in the yarn. It’s strange how different in theme, mood, atmosphere and the variety of creations these two similar yet very different art forms create

I bought this skein of yarn from JoAnn before they closed, and at the time, looking at the colors of the yarn, I had the same feeling that I get when I think about all those warm fall images and memories. I’m working on a shawl to go on my shop, and If I have enough, maybe two (who knows). But I am loving the way this colorway is working up and reminds me of a sandy beach and fall leaves at the same time. I hope you enjoy the progress pictures of this lovely shawl!

I have also been in the process of trying to decide what I should make with this yarn that I bought because it was on sale. Additionally, I needed to spend $10 to get free shipping at Michaels. (I mean who wouldn’t want 3 more balls of yarn for $11 dollars and get free shipping vs $8 for shipping?) This has been an ongoing internal debate about which pattern would be better. I want to knit a shawl because I find it more relaxing and refreshing to knit a shawl than to crochet one. I don’t know why, but I do. I have several other balls of yarn that I got from Temu back in the spring that I am trying to figure out what to do with. I had bought them with the idea of making shawls or scarves out of them, but I haven’t decided. There are other yarns I will link in the pictures below that I think would make good scarves, including a personal project I’m going to frog and knit instead of the crochet caplet I started (and didn’t have enough yarn to complete).

I have some ideas of what I could make with these lovely yarns, but any suggestions from my Crafty friends and family would be welcome! If anyone would like to request a made to order shawl/scarf from one of these yarns, let me know, and we can determine a pattern to use together!
