Kattober 2025
This year, I decided to participate in the Kattober challenge. Kattober challenge is an art challenge inspired by inktober and created by Kattvalk, an artist in Sweden. She loves all things about cats, and her artwork is gorgeous! I love watching her Youtube videos. That’s how I first found out about the challenge.
Here is the official 2025 Kattober prompt list! Disclaimer: this list is not mine, and I did not create it. This list was created by Kattvalk, and she owns the rights to the design on this list.
The idea is that you should draw a picture of a cat with the theme listed on the daily prompt. Check out all the amazing artwork posted on the instagram #Kattober and #Kattober2025
I will be including updates on my work periodically throughout the month of October, so come back to check it out.
All of my artworks are below! I am experimenting with my style and trying to determine what I like and ways to create the designs I have imagined. For a few of the images, I have used reference images, and in some situations, I will include the original reference next to my artwork. Below the images, I break down my inspiration and thoughts behind each image. I own the rights to all of the images (except the Bluejay reference image sourced from ebird.org and taken by and copyright by Scott Martin). Any use of my images should list myself as the original artist and source.
Spot
My thoughts behind this one was to draw a “comfy spot”. This was my first digital artwork in several years, and I wanted a cool autumn theme. What comfier spot could a kitty find than roasting in front of a fire? The perfect kitty spot!
2. Brew
Witches Brew was obviously my inspiration, and I love all the spooky Halloween things. I had to draw mushrooms too, and one of my favorite things to draw with mushrooms is tiny people! What do you think is happening in this picture? Do you think the cat is a familiar? Are little people an ingredient in the potion and they’re trying to save a friend, or do you think they’re trying to steal the potion? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
3. Claws
This image is inspired not by kitty claws, but by a kitty without any claws: our Sting Rayzor. He’s such a cutie, but vicious. My mom did a witch’s apothecary a few years ago for Halloween, and she made a lot of ingredient jars filled with everyday household items and “trash” such as whiskers from our kitties and fur from Seraphina as “werewolf fur.” Seraphina frequently chews on her back claws, but she also sheds layers of her front claws. Inspired by these things, I decided to draw alliterated apothecary jars with Ray’s familiar.
4. Treehouse
My parents have a cat that we named Lawny. We named him that because he adopted us as his family, and he likes to lie around in the lawn. He has the nickname Lawn Tiger because his stripes are reminiscent of a Tiger’s. He loves to climb the tree in the front yard, and I think he would sleep in a treehouse if we made one for him!
5. Grin
I had a difficult time deciding if I should draw our kitty Lawny or if I should draw our cat, Pimento. He doesn’t like that name, though so we call him BB. They both are very sweet boys and seem to smile whenever they get petted. Since I drew Lawny the day before, I decided to draw BB.
6. Bird
This image is inspired by one of the cats we had a few years ago. We named her Woolly Meep because she looked like a woolly worm when she first adopted us as her family and her meows were the cutest little meeps. She was a vicious but sweet little hunter. She liked to catch and leave us all kinds of presents, but the most unique and surprising present she left us was the head of a Blue Jay. She spent several weeks after that trying to avoid the other neighborhood blue jays. Birds are one of my favorite things to draw, and I think that Blue jays, although mean to other birds (they are related to crows), are absolutely gorgeous. As a strange coincidence, about 3 days after I drew this picture, a couple of bluejays started showing up to my bird feeder!
7. Patch
I had a few ideas for this one. I could draw a kitty scarecrow with patches, or a kitty doll with patches, or a kitty with colored patches on its fur. I had a lot of ideas, but ultimately, I decided to go with Pumpkin Patch. I also learned a new word while I was looking up synonyms for feline/cat. A Grimalkin is another word for cat. Here is the definition from Merriam Webster: “a domestic cat especially: an old female cat.” Wikipedia also lists the following information: “also known as a greymalkin, is an archaic term for a cat.[1] The term stems from "grey" (the colour) plus "malkin", an archaic term with several meanings (a low class woman, a weakling, a mop, or a name) derived from a hypocoristic form of the female name Maud.[2] Scottish legend makes reference to the grimalkin as a faery cat that dwells in the highlands.” Additionally, it can also refer to a malicious old woman or a witch's familiar and has been used in literature and folklore to represent cats in a more supernatural or sinister context. It was even referenced in Macbeth!
8. Odd
This picture is inspired by Ray. He is famous in our house for being a bit more than just “odd.” We don’t think the poor guy even realized he was a cat for a really long time, until he met Seraphina. He is also famous for all the odd sleeping and sitting positions he has.
9. Sticky
Honey, batter, maple syrup, icing, all can be a sticky mess. This was inspired by pumpkin sticky buns. We definitely don’t want our kitties walking through our dough, filling, or icing the way my little kitty did in the picture!
10. Market
I had a difficult time deciding what to draw for this prompt but ultimately decided to draw a kitty’s favorite thing. Toys! The toy isle of a pet store to be exact. So cute, and the cutest little fuzzy kitty booty!
11. Frenzy
This one was inspired by the wild shenanigans that Seraphina gets into when she gets into the Silvernip. She has never been a huge fan of catnip, and really most of the time just ignores regular catnip, but I discovered toys filled with catnip and silvervine, a mixture that’s been termed “silvernip.” She goes absolutely bonkers over it. She will play so hard she spills her food bowl and toys go flying everywhere!
12. Soft
I had a very hard time with this one. The only two things I really wanted to draw for soft was my soft little Seraphina and her favorite soft thing: fuzzy or knitted blankets. I tried for a couple of hours to get the texture on the blanket right, but just couldn’t get them to turn out the way I wanted. I finally settled for a semi-fuzzy texture, and I am rather disappointed in how plain the drawing came out.
13. Rainy
Seraphina’s favorite things to do on a rainy day are to sleep on my lap and watch the birds out the window. What better things are there to do? I enjoy these activities with her (along with my usual crafts) and thought this would be the perfect scene to draw.
14. Key
This one is rather plain, but Seraphina holds the key to my heart. I know it’s cheesy, but she is the love of my life so far, and I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have her in my life. She fills me with joy and love every day, especially on this day, My Birthday!
15. Blossom
One of my favorite flowers and my favorite flower to draw is the dogwood blossom. They are so gorgeous, and the symbolism and meaning behind them make them all the more special. There used to be dogwood trees outside my dorm room at the time that I adopted Seraphina, and she loves to sniff anything that I offer her. What a better thing to draw than Seraphina sniffing a dogwood blossom? Two of my favorite things in one picture. I was a bit frustrated about how pixelated the three blossoms turned out after I adjusted their size and position, but overall, I’m happy with the way it turned out!
